This morning was the first cold morning. I turned under my down comforter hoping I had enough sleep hours left to get warm, but alas it was pushing seven and the sun was up. October shivers had their way with me as I shifted from satin night slip to woolen layers as quickly as possible. Summer is over. Time to move on from hopes of sunbathed naps in the yard to hunky Frye boots and a spare sweater in the hatchback.

It also means my summer tan has begun its fade. I’m on the last dregs of shade 11 in the Hourglass skin tint, a favorite that was fast but lasting. It’s creaminess feels plump and hydrating, the coverage a gentle medium, and the shade match a win, it’s been a pleasure to enjoy on a regular basis. It tames and evens my coloring but always looks like freshly moisturized skin, never makeup-y. I also don’t have any other skin tints or foundations that match me at my late summer depth, and I didn’t need one. Soon I’ll surrender to shade 10.

My glowy base remains consistent; Saie Glowy Super Gel in Sunglow by far the most frequent as the hydration is sublime, the glow ever so sheer but impactful, and the formula plays especially well with others. Followed next by Super Skin Nova (Vieve), and more sparingly, Glowlust (Auric), which offers a denser sheen of reflective substance than the others. Charlotte’s Hollywood Flawless Filter sneaks in from time to time, as I like that there are depth and shade options here. 5.5 and 6 are my most frequent at summer’s end.

Bases L-R: Auric Glowlust Sunstone, Shiseido concealer 303, Vieve Super Skin Nova, Charlotte Hollywood Flawless Filter 6, Saie glowy gel Sunglow, Hourglass Tint 11, VBB Concealer M1. IRL these all appear richer in depth, the sunlight in the photo makes them appear in the light med range when they are all more in the medium or medium tan range.
